What is your update policy?

A: The software you bought provides you with one full year of updates. The price of the software you bought includes updates. Skyscape's SmartUpdate program (in your program files on your PC) will automatically notify you of updates and you can also check http://www.skyscape.com/updates at any time to determine whether an update is available for your software. Updates include software feature enhancements from Skyscape and any content update provided to Skyscape from the publisher for that edition of the book. How often do you update your products?

A: Certain titles such as the drug databases may be updated on a monthly or quarterly basis (depending upon the publisher's schedule), whereas other clinical titles based on the popular print edition are updated on an annual schedule (or sometimes even more than a year). For such clinical print titles, there may be some minor data "corrections" provided by the publisher. Skyscape releases the updates of the titles in such cases. In addition, Skyscape frequently introduces software enhancements to our product line to serve the needs of our user community. Updates are made available at such times as well. In order to check if an update to your software title is available, you can run Skyscape's SmartUpdate program or you can check the most current version number available on our website (at http://www.skyscape.com/updates) and compare it against the version number installed on your handheld. You may determine if you qualify for an update for the product you own by consulting your SmartUpdate program or the prevailing update policy at the time of the purchase of your product.

Do I have to remove the old version from my handheld when I update?

A: No. When you update, the old version is automatically removed. If you are upgrading to a new version (edition) of a product, you must delete the old version. However, do not delete the old version until you have installed the new version or you will lose all your notes. Mac users need to remove the old version for both updates and upgrades.

Do I need a serial number or unlock code to update?

A: No. If you are eligible for product updates, just follow the update instructions in you SmartUpdate program or the instructions at the bottom of this page. If you are asked to register or enter an unlock code, please go to www.skyscape.com/help and use the form to contact us for assistance.

I bought a new device and want to put the updated version on it. How do I do that?

How do I backup personal notes and databases associated with Skyscape products?

A: If you are using a Windows PC, the personal databases and notes files are two PDB files in your "C:\Palm\YOUR_NAME\Backup" directory (where YOUR_NAME is a combination of your first and last names). For example, the notes database for the product 5MCC is called notes5MCC.pdb and the personal DB is called 5MCCPersonalDB.pdb. When you perform a HotSync, your handheld device overwrites these files with the current personal notes and databases on your Palm device.

You can backup these files at any time by copying them to your own backup folder on your PC.

How do I remove a Skyscape product from a Palm device?

A: Follow these instructions:
  1. Go to the home screen on your Palm device. The home screen is the one which has all the program icons.

  2. Click on the Menu icon (this is the icon on the bottom left of your device, next to the Graffiti box).

  3. From the "App" menu which pops up, select "Delete." This will launch the Delete screen, listing all the products installed on the device.

  4. Select the product you want to delete and then click the "Delete" button.

How do I install files to my Palm device using the Palm Install Tool?

A: Follow these instructions:
  1. On a Windows desktop, go to the Start Menu, then choose Programs->Palm Desktop->Install Tool. You can also launch the Install Tool by running your Palm Desktop software and clicking on the Install button. An Install Tool window will open.

  2. On the top of Install Tool window, you will see a list of users. Select your HotSync user name from the list.

  3. Click the Add button, which will launch an Open window. By default, it will be looking in the "addon" folder. Move to the folder which has the files you want to add.

  4. Select the file(s) that you want to install on the Palm.

  5. The next time you HotSync, the files that you added to the Install Tool will be installed on your Palm.

How do I update Skyscape products on my handheld device?

A: Currently you have two options to update products:
  1. Use SmartUpdate (Windows PC users only).
  2. Go to the updates page to download the update manually - The update to the product is a complete reinstall of the product.

What is SmartUpdate?

A: Skyscape SmartUpdate is an application on your PC which automatically notifies you when updates are available for your registered Skyscape products. You can tell SmartUpdate to automatically update your PDA when updates are available or to just simply notify you so you can update at your convenience.

What updates do I get for free?

A: The software you bought provides you with free updates for 12 months or until a new edition is released, whichever is sooner. Skyscape's SmartUpdate program will notify you of updates and you can also check http://www.skyscape.com/updates at any time to determine whether an update is available for your software. Updates include software feature enhancements from Skyscape and any content updates provided to Skyscape from the publisher for that edition of the book (the release of a new edition is not included in the free updates).
