Installation

To install the Skyscape, Inc. ART^TM product you must have access to either a Macintosh OS or a Windows PC computer, and software that downloads files to the Palm device. For general instructions on how to download files to your Palm device, please refer to the documentation that came with this software. Palm devices include the Sony Clie, Visor, TRGPro, and HandEra handhelds.

Each Skyscape, Inc. ART^TM product contains one reader and one or more data files. All of these files must be installed on your Palm device in order to function properly. Depending upon the product you have purchased, you may find one or more of the following files on the hard disk of your system:

Note that the extensions such as (.prc, .pdb) may not be visible if you are using a Windows PC and have set your explorer preferences to "hide" the extensions.

If you had a previous version of PDRDrugs installed on your Palm Pilot, we recommend that you delete that version from your Palm Pilot and reinstall the files received with this package.

Make sure that you check that your Palm device has enough free memory to accommodate the files you choose to install. In order to check this, you "Open the Launcher on your Palm device, and select the menu item 'Info' from the 'App' menu to see the amount of memory available". To figure out how much space is needed, add the file sizes reported in the "Installation Tool" (see below). Please note that you need to have at least 250 Kb of spare free memory after the installation, or your product may not work correctly.

Using the Palm Install Tool on your desktop PC (or any desktop tool that allows you to download applications and databases to the Palm device), add the PDRDrugs.prc and SmartRender.prc file and the data files (PDRDrugs.pdb and all the auxiliary files (PDRDrugs_000.pdb, PDRDrugs_i01.pdb, PDRDrugs_i02.pdb, PDRDrugs_i03.pdb and PDRDrugs_toc.pdb) to the installer. The Windows desktop installation will add the files to the Palm Install Tool for you, or you can select "Start->Programs->Palm PDRDrugs by Skyscape->Install PDRDrugs on handheld" from the task bar. On the Macintosh desktop you will have to add these files by hand.

Make sure your device is connected to the desktop PC and perform a HotSync operation to download these files onto your Palm device. Note that the HotSync operation can take a long time depending on the size of the Skyscape product and the speed of your serial or USB connection. When the HotSync is done, check the HotSync log for any error messages. If there are no errors, the product is installed properly on your Palm device. The Palm device should ask you to reset, and after the reset you are ready to use the product.

If you want to install your product onto the memory card, you can change the destination for the data files to the memory card using the Palm Install Tool. (Not all combinations of Palm Install Tool and Palm devices support this functionality.) To change the destination, press on the "Change Destination..." button in the right lower corner of the Palm Install Tool. In the resulting dialog select the data files (".pdb") that should go on the card and press on the ">>" button to move them to the column for the memory card. Don't install the reader (".prc") to the memory card because the reader must always be installed to the internal (or main) memory of your Palm handheld. Make sure that your Palm device performs a soft reset after the installation (you will be prompted on the device).

In the case you are not prompted to perform a soft reset, you have to perform a soft reset manually by pressing with a paper clip in the reset hole on the back of your Palm device. If your Palm device supports moving databases from the internal memory to the card, you must also perform a soft reset manually after moving any of the Skyscape data files. Installation of any of the Skyscape, Inc. software packages on more than one device at a time constitutes illegal software duplication and is subject to prosecution.
