Installation on Pocket PC / WinCE

Q: How to resolve errors on the Pocket PC/SmartPhone (ARM processor only)?
A: ERROR:

  • Open a Skyscape product on the Pocket PC device and receive the error "Invalid pocket PC application".
  • The Pocket PC device  powers off and then back on while a Skyscape program is running and the device then freezes sometimes requiring a soft reset.
  • After the device goes into suspend mode and then comes back up, the following error is seen "Notification error: cannot execute \notifications named events \ PROGRAM \ wakeup."
  • Installed product and receiving Archimedes plug-in error.
  • Cannot open pop ups in resource(s).


RESOLUTION:
NOTE:  The files in step 3 are only for devices with an ARM processor (ex:Axim & Ipaq).  If you have another processor type submit a support request http://www.skyscape.com/help  and include the manufacturer, model and processor type of your device. 

  1. Perform soft reset on device to stop all programs and proceed to step 2.
  2. Connect your device to your desktop PC and verify Active Sync says connected and synchronized.
  3. Save the zip file listed below for the type of PDA you have to your desktop
  4. Extract the zip file on your desktop.
  5. Select the five files (hold down the CTRL key and single click each file to select them all).
  6. Once they are all highlighted, hit the CTRL and the C buttons on your keyboard at the same time to copy the files.
  7. Open Active Sync on your desktop PC
  8. Click on the Explore button in Active Sync. 
  9. Double Click on the “My Pocket PC or My Windows Mobile Device” icon.
  10. Double Click on the Windows folder.
  11. Go to Edit and choose Paste - If prompted the file already exists say yes to overwrite.
NOTE: When you copy and paste these files you are placing them directly on your Pocket PC device. Once you have completed all steps, you can go and immediately test your program to make sure that they are now functioning properly. To resolve the wakeup error, you must run a Skyscape program at least once to apply the fix.

NOTE:  If you do not see the Windows Folder on your Windows XP computer you need to change the Folder View:

  • Click on Tools in the Explore window
  • Selct Folder Options
  • Select the View Tab
  • Select "Show Hidden Files & Folders"
If you have a Windows VISTA desktop you will need to:

  • Select File Management in your Windows Mobile Device Center
  • Browse the content of your device
  • Select Tools - Folder Options - View
  • If you do not have Tools on your upper Task Bar go to Organize - Folder & Search Options - View
  • Select "Show Hidden Files & Folders"
  • Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)"
  • Go back to browse the content of your device
