Installation on Palm

Q:

Palm desktop is installed, but I receive error that Palm Desktop Not Found, how do I resolve this?
A: CAUSE: Windows Registry has a different path for where the Palm Desktop software is installed then where it really is installed.

RESOLUTION:
Update SSCAdmin

  1. Go to My Computer .
  2. Go to C:\program files\common files\Skyscape
  3. Delete SSCAdmin.exe and artwork.dll
  4. Please download the SSCAdmin.exe and artwork.dll from the following links  http://84.40.31.173/download/patches/conduit/SSCAdmin.exe  http://84.40.31.173/download/patches/conduit/Artwork.dll
  5. Choose Save
  6. Save to C:\program files\common files\Skyscape. (Note : If you save the files onto your desktop or anywhere else, you will continue to have problems. Please ensure it is to this folder that you are saving the files.)
  7. Try to reinstall the product. If you continue to get "palm desktop not found" then try the manual installation process below.
Palm Devices Install Using Palm Install Tool / Quick Install Tool

  1. Open your palm desktop.
  2. Click on the install tool button on the left side of the screen.
  3. Select your hotsync id from the user drop down menu.
  4. Click on the add button at the right of the install tool.
  5. Change the look in field to C:\.
  6. Double click on the folder labeled Skyscape.
  7. Double click on the folder for the product (example: Tabers).
  8. Double click on the version number folder (example: 6.0.8).
  9. Double click on the folder labeled Palm Install Files.
  10. Select all of the pdb and prc files by holding down the ctrl on your keyboard and clicking each one of them with your mouse.
  11. Click on open in the "open" window.
  12. If you have a memory stick, then click on the button labeled change destination. Please note that only the pdb files can be loaded to the card, the PRC files must remain on the main memory of the device. (Quick Install Tool | Drag the PDB files to the expansion card).   13. Click on "done" in the install tool window (Quick Install Tool | Click the X to close), then provided, the device is in the cradle and the cradle is connected to your pc, push the hotsync button to install the product.
  14. Tap Reset when prompted on device.
If problem persists check the Registry

  1. Go to Start | Run.
  2. Type Regedit | Click OK.
  3. Export your registry (File | Export | Name file (ex: JoeReg0104) | Click Save.
  4. Click on the plus sign to the left of HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
  5. Click on the plus sign to the left of the SOFTWARE folder.
  6. Click on the plus sign to the left of the U.S. ROBOTICS folder.
  7. Click on the plus sign to the left of the PILOT DESKTOP folder.
  8. Click on the CORE folder.Then in the window on the right you will see "Path" in the Name column. Note the value which is listed in the Data column.  The directory in the dta column should be where the Palm.exe is installed - see step 9.
  9. Go to My Computer and go to the directory that was listed in the data column in the step above (ex: C\palm, C:\palmOne or C:\Program files\sony handheld); is there a palm.exe file in the directory that was listed in the data column in your registry? If you are not able to locate the palm.exe then you will need to uninstall and reinstall the Palm desktop software.
