Dr. Jason Bratcher
Chief Medical Resident
Lenox Hill Hospital
New York, NY

Dr. Bratcher admits that his job as Chief Medical Resident at Lenox Hill Hospital is fairly administrative: organizing lectures, arranging teaching sessions and acting as the “go-to person” to his 88 residents. He finds, though, that using a PDA to obtain medical information in a clinical setting greatly improves the efficiency of this work.

Dr. Bratcher used ePocrates products to complement his medical journals and books. Dr. Bratcher was then introduced to Skyscape’s Clinical Constellation, an all-in-one suite of medical references that grants access to critical information about drugs, diseases, interactions, lab information, treatment options and guidelines. Dr. Bratcher has found the Clinical Constellation to be the most comprehensive package of information he has used to date.

Dr. Bratcher likes his Skyscape-powered PDA because it gets him the information he needs quickly and efficiently and resolves his two most common questions: “What do I treat this with?” and “What’s the most effective treatment?” With Skyscape, these can be easily answered with just a few clicks of the stylus.

Dr. Bratcher finds the breadth and depth of the Clinical Constellation useful while making rounds. With Skyscape’s patented smARTlink technology, he can seamlessly click through these different references and look up more in-depth information on related topics. Specifically, the Five Minute Clinical Consult, AHFS Dosing Companion, Harrison’s Manual of Medicine and the Guide to Popular Natural Products combine to provide answers to his questions—something other products could not do. “It is great for when I am in need of quick and accurate dosing information, looking up equations and getting background on infections. Its use is now imperative for me."

Dr. Bratcher’s practice also takes him on monthly visits to a Lenox Hill-affiliated nursing home, making sick visits and recommendations on hospital transfers. His PDA proves resourceful here as well–especially the natural medicine title—to treat patients when initially “we have no idea why they have certain symptoms and how the symptoms relate.”

Dr. Bratcher finds this technology beneficial for every level at Lenox Hill. He estimates that 80% of residents use PDAs to look up critical information. “I only see this expanding and getting more use in the future."
