Skyscape Selected to Supply Mobile Medical Resources to Nursing Program at Largest State College in Massachusetts
Salem State uses Skyscape to Enhance Point-of-Care Training and Healthcare Delivery
MARLBOROUGH, Mass. - September 4, 2007 - Skyscape®, the worldwide leading service for trusted medical information by specialty for mobile devices has been selected to supply mobile medical resources for the nursing education program at Massachusetts’ largest state college, Salem State. These resources are being used by faculty and students to enhance clinical education and to create new methods for nursing practice that take advantage of mobile and wireless technology.
“The ability to rely on trusted information resources impacts how nurses can best serve the needs of the patient,” said Dr. Barbara Poremba, Professor of Nursing & Adult Nurse Practitioner at Salem State College. “By using Skyscape software, we are enabling our students to gain proficiency in state-of-the-art technology. This will not only help our students learn efficiently, but it will also enable them to deliver quality patient care in any clinical setting.”
Salem State began working with Skyscape during a pilot program in 2006. As a result of that program’s success, the College has expanded its relationship with Skyscape to include additional resources, training and customized services for faculty and students.
Skyscape medical resources have gained widespread acceptance as a core requirement for many leading nursing and medical education programs. In the education setting, these resources are valuable teaching tools, helping to promote the development of critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills. As students graduate and become practicing clinicians, Skyscape resources continue to assist in improving the quality of care, reducing costs, increasing efficiencies and reducing medical errors.
“The pace at which information changes and grows is increasing exponentially,” said Sandeep Shah, Skyscape CEO. “Therefore, it is more important than ever to have dynamic information readily available at the point-of-care. Salem State is taking an important step by bringing this technology to its campus and empowering students with cutting-edge information tools from the very start of their nursing careers. In a world where college students are already savvy with the Internet and wireless technologies, incorporating these tools into higher education curricula is the wave of the future.”
Over 35 medical and nursing specialties are represented in Skyscape’s portfolio. These resources span a wide variety of medical information including clinical titles, drug and lab guides, specialty-specific publications, guidelines, health plan formularies, continuing education, journals and breaking medical news and alerts.
